ABC: New measures to make it cheaper to add solar panels to NSW apartment blocks

A recent article by ABC News highlights how the NSW Government’s Solar for Apartment Residents (SoAR) program is helping apartment residents access rooftop solar—technology that has traditionally been out of reach for people living in strata buildings.

The piece spotlights our SolShare technology as a key solution enabling shared solar access for apartments, particularly in dense urban areas where individual systems aren’t feasible.

SolShare subdivides the energy a solar system generates equally among all of the connected apartments but delivers it dynamically throughout the day through a single rooftop solar system, offering residents access to clean energy and long-term bill savings.

While installing rooftop solar comes with inherent costs, apartment owners are able to divide that cost between units. Our CEO and Co-founder Cameron Knox explained how the financial outcome was worth the up-front cost and would provide a buffer from the volatility of traditional power prices.

The article also notes how SolShare is already being used in buildings across Australia, and how the NSW grant program could accelerate adoption by removing upfront cost barriers and supporting more equitable energy access.
